Effects of nutrients (in particular
nitrogen from human activities) on water column and benthic producers and
benthic community structure and function. Impact of predation and resource
limitation on benthic macro and meiofaunal abundance and productivity.
Measurement and comparison of
total system, benthic and water column productivity in coastal pond systems
impacted by wastewater.
Examination nitrogen in groundwater
entering coastal bays and estuaries.
Sealed core estimates of C and
N mineralization in sediments: Mineralization rate could be influenced by
1) temperature, 2) %C or %N in sediments, 3) nitrogen loading rates to estuaries,
and 4) salinity.
Nitrogen isotope analyses of
DIN in the groundwater plume from the Falmouth Sewage Treatment Plant: the
Town of Falmouth has placed a number of multidepth sampling wells in the
vicinity of the plumes emanating from the Falmouth Sewage Treatment Plant
and septage lagoons. These plumes are poised to enter West Falmouth Harbor.
The goal of this project would be to obtain and analyze samples of groundwater
from these wells for NO3, NH4, DON, DOC, and the 15N/14N
in NO3 and perhaps N2. This would confirm the nature
and origin of the N present in groundwater.
