Not too many days have gone by with my not having thought of those days plodding though Cape Cod brackish water inlets as part of the course, but more importantly, as part of the larger ecosystem we call Earth. For it was there, among the spitting clams and dragonflies, I saw a beautiful, delicate, sometimes brutal, cosmic dance played out each day, always true to form, in bio-sustainable harmony. It was in Woods Hole that I realized we are all in the same boat, so we might as well get along.

My two daughters’ response to bugs has been the same. They cackle and shriek in glee at the cosmic dance (minds without borders and ownership) and all its associated rancor, and do it so naturally as to make me wonder if all contrary behavior is learned. I hope so, for all vertebrates of Earth are poised for a moment of great decision, in which their learned behavior needs to be discarded in favor of bio-sustainable harmony in the cosmic glee. As for Earth, she will take care of herself with or without vertebrates.

Until then, I continue my private practice of Neurology in Los Angeles, specializing and teaching in Neurophysiology as Clinical Faculty at UCLA. I live with my two daughters Rei and Riki, and my wife Charlotte Hoshi, AIA.
