Laboratory of Barbara and Bruce Furie

This laboratory, which has investigated the vitamin K-dependent biosynthesis of gamma-carboxyglutamic acid in marine invertebrates, has expanded its focus to the study of the structure of the mammalian blood coagulation protein, factor VIII. Factor VIII is the protein missing or defective in hemophilia. This satellite laboratory at the MBL relates closely to the main laboratory, the Center for Hemostasis and Thrombosis Research, at Harvard Medical School.
