Climate and Environmental Change

Study how human activities alter the earth’s element cycles and climate. Conduct research on the large-scale effects of global change on terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, including effects on the chemistry of the atmosphere and on the climate system using a combination of field experiments and simulation modeling. Projects currently include research on soil warming and the timing of budbreak and leafout at the Harvard Forest in western Massachusetts, investigation of climate history from Arctic lakes, effects of climate change on salt marshes, and changes to hydrology and water chemistry in the Brazilian Amazon.
