Parking at Brown

There are three options for parking at Brown:

1. Street parking

There tends to be plenty of free street parking within a couple of blocks of campus. From the Cape, take I-195 to Providence, exit at Gano Street, turn right at the light at the end of the exit, go a few blocks and make a left at the next light (Pitman Street). Follow for a few blocks until it Ts into Governor St. Turn left on Governor St and within a block or two, you should encounter all day free on-the-street parking. Do not park too close to the corners or you will receive a ticket.

2. Visitor Parking Lot

Location: Brook st. behind Minden Hall (southeast corner of Brook St. and Waterman Ave.)

Parking Pay Stations: The lot is serviced by two ‘pay and display’ parking pay stations: one is located at the Brook St. entrance and the other is located mid-lot.

Payment Options: The Pay Stations accept credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover), US coins and US bills (they do not give change, however).

Parking Rates:
M-F, 8 AM to 6 PM $3.00/hour
All day rate until 6 PM (M-F) $15.00
Weekdays after 6 PM, weekends and holidays, $1.50/hour

Note: The pay stations do not allow for department-validated rates; the rate is the same for all visitors.

3. Visitor Parking Pass

A Brown Department can pre-purchase a Visitor Pass for Lot 57 but this is not commonly done.

Note: Visitor Parking passes may not be used in the Visitor Parking Lot.

Parking Reimbursement

The Brown MBL Program encourages students and faculty to make every effort to find free street parking on day trips to Brown, given the relative ease of doing so. The program will reimburse for parking only in the following exceptional situations:

1. When students or faculty stay overnight at 251 Bowen Street where parking is not provided and free overnight parking is not available.
2. When students or faculty have a disability or injury that prevents them from utilizing on-street parking.
3. On occasion when parking is not easily available, time is of the essence, or the circumstance is otherwise extenuating.

To request parking reimbursement, please complete and submit a travel reimbursement form along with parking receipts and indicate your justification (#1-3 above).
