Soil Respiration in Forests

The objective of this project is to explore the dynamics of soil carbon fluxes and storage at Harvard Forest, the partitioning of soil respiration, and the link of soil respiration with photosynthesis and stem respiration.

 

 

We developed an automated soil chamber measurement system, along with a soil CO2 profile measurement system, to quantify CO2 production and diffusion in soils and the surface CO2 efflux.

 

This system enables us to measure soil respiration under snowpack.
