Director of Development & External Relations
Pamela Clapp Hinkle is the MBL’s Director of Development & External Relations. A Cape Cod native, Pam earned a B.S. in biology from Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Virginia. She joined the MBL in 1982 as assistant editor of the MBL’s international journal, The Biological Bulletin, and has served the laboratory in a variety of capacities since then.
She has been the administrative director of the MBL’s Science Journalism Program (1986 to 2008) and coordinated the laboratory’s centennial events in 1988. In 1989 she was promoted to Managing Editor of The Biological Bulletin, and in 1992 she was named Director of Communications, with oversight for the journal as well as all MBL publications, the MBL’s web site, Discovery Campaign collateral and events, media relations, and public outreach and community relations activities. She participated in the development of the MBL’s Strategic Plan in 2004 and managed the laboratory’s subsequent Image and Identity initiative. Under Pam’s leadership, the Communications team launched MBL Catalyst, a magazine published by the laboratory twice a year.
In September 2007 Pam became the MBL’s Director of Development & External Relations. In this role she oversees the MBL’s fund raising, government relations, and communications activities. She is currently directing the MBL’s most ambitious fund raising effort to date, the $125M Catalyst Campaign, which was launched publicly in July 2010.
