Getting Started: Tips for Course Assistants and Faculty

All rented computers will be pre-configured for network access. Feel free to move them to where they will best suit your needs, but please notify the IT Course Technician (x7538) when changes have been made.

Instructions for Connecting Various Operating Systems to our Network:
  • DHCP instructions are located in Lillie 204 and Swope lobby.

Network Printers:
  • Most systems have been set up to print to the closest printer, but instructions have been provided for connecting to network printers for users who wish to add a printer to their system.

MBL Mail Clients:
  • When using a mail client for e-mail, such as Eudora, the Outgoing Mail Server should be changed to "smtp.mbl.edu" if there is a problem sending mail.

Passwords and Anti-Virus Software:
  • Protect all shared files with a password. Viruses may be spread through computers with no password on accounts or shares that do not have password protection.

  • All computers that connect to the MBL network are required to be protected by an up-to-date anti-virus software package. All course computers have this installed. Contact the the helpdesk at x7654 or helpdesk@mbl.edu if any other computers are attached to the network in your group.

Network hubs and cables are provided to the courses - contact IT Course Tech at x7538. Students may purchased their own in the Stock Room located in the basement of the Lillie building.
