Instructions for connecting to a TCP/IP Printer
NOTE: If you are using a computer with Windows 95, 98, ME, & NT Operating system, please contact the Helpdesk for Assistance
Windows 2000 & XP:
Click on the Start button, located on the left side of the taskbar, then select Settings, and select Printers and Faxes
Double click the Add Printer icon.
This opens the Add Printer Wizard. Click on the Next button.
Select the radio button next to the option that says "Local printer attached to this computer", even though you are adding a network printer. Be sure that the option to "automatically detect my Plug N Play printer" is NOT selected. Then click the Next button.
Select the radio button next to the option "Create new port". Then select "Standard TCP/IP port" in the drop down menu and click the Next button.
Click the Next button again.
In the text box labeled "Printer Name or IP Address" enter the address written on the front of the printer preceded by the numbers "128.128.." For emaple "128.128.173.200". There will be a pause while the computer tries to contact the printer at the entered IP address. The next screen will ask about the driver for the network card in the printer, using "Generic Network Card," which is the default, is advised.
Then click the Next button, followed by the Finish button
Select the manufacturer and the printer model you are going to be using and click Next.
If the printer is not listed then you will have to download the driver. Drivers can be found on the manufacturer's website, or from the CD that came with the printer. If not listed then select "Have Disk" and a new window will come up. Select the "Browse" button and point to the folder where the driver has been downloaded to the CD. Then select OK.
Click the Next button, again.
In the Printer Name text box enter the printer name that has been written on the front of the printer, and select if you want this to be your default printer. Click the Next button.
Be sure that the "Do not share" option is selected and click the Next button.
Click the Next button one last time followed by the Finish button and you are ready to print .
MAC OS 10.4:
Open your System Preferences Window.
Click on the "Print and Fax" icon.
Click on the "+" sign under the list of already installed printers.
Click on "IP Printing" at the top of the new window.
In the text box next to "Address" enter the IP address of the desired printer.
Next to "Name" enter the name of the desired printer.
Next to "Location" enter the IP address again.
Select the Make and Model of the printer from the drop down menus (Note: these will only become available once the above information has been entered).
Click "Add" at the bottom of the window.
Add the installable options (Note: if you do not know the available options then use defaults, the printer will function correctly).
Click "Continue".
You are now ready to use the newly added printer.
To set the default printer choose the desired default from the drop down menu next to "Selected Printer in Print Dialog".
Mac OS 10.3:
Open your System Preferences Window.
Click on the "Print and Fax" icon.
Click on the "Setup Printers..." button.
Click on the "Add" icon.
Click on the menu list that says "Rendezvous," and choose "IP Printing".
The printer type should be "LPD/LPR." Next enter the IP address that is located on the front of the printer in the text box where it says "Printer Address." Ex: "128.128.168.64"
Choose the printer model from the drop down list.
Click on the "Add" button and you are ready to begin printing to the network printer.
Mac OS 10.2:
On the taskbar in the upper left corner of the screen click on File, and then click on Find.
In the search window that comes up, enter "Print Center" and click "OK" once the utility is found, click on the "Print Center" icon to open the program.
If you do not have any printers currently installed, the Print Center will ask you if you would like to add to your list of printers. Simply click on "Add" to continue. If you already have a printer installed, the printer list will come up automatically. Once the printer list has come up, click on "Add Printer"
A window will open, with a pull-menu at the top. From the pull-down menu, choose ‘LPR Printers using IP’ Enter the IP address of the printer you wish to print to in the space labeled ‘LPR printer’s Address’ (Note: The printer IP address will be on the label on the front of the printer) Leave the box labeled "Use" Default Queue on Server’ checked, and leave the printer model as ‘Generic’. Once you have finished entering the printer’s address, click the ‘Add’ button.
Mac OS X will take a moment to create the printer. Once you see the printer in the Printer List, installation is complete.
Mac OS 8.6 - 9.2:
On the taskbar in the upper left corner of the screen, click on the File drop down menu, and then click on Find.
In the search window that comes up, enter 'Desktop Printer Utility' and click 'OK' Once the utility is found, click on the 'Desktop Printer Utility' icon to open the program
The 'New Desktop Printer' window will open. From the list of options, choose 'Printer (LPR)', then click 'OK'
A window will appear containing two printer icons (PostScript and LPR Printer) Highlight the 'LPR Printer' icon and click the 'Change' button
The 'Internet Printer' window will appear. Enter the IP address of the printer in the Printer Address tab, located on the front of the printer. Before clicking 'OK', click the 'Verify' button to make sure that your machine can find the printer.
Click the 'Create' button. You will be asked where you would like to save the printer icon (It is recommended that you save the icon on the desktop) as well as the name you would like to give the printer (Note: the printer name is also located on the front of the machine) Once you have chosen the save location and the printer name, click the save button. Printer installation is now complete
