FTP Access Instructions

The MBL provides a FTP Service (File Transfer Protocol) available for use to any MBL Employee or Researcher. This is the recommended method for transferring large files over the Internet. To Begin using this system you must first create an FTP Username and Password. This is done by logging in at https://ftp.mbl.edu with your MBL Single-Sign-On Username and Password. The FTP Username will be the same as your FTP Site Name.

The default settings for a new FTP site are:

  • 1000 maximum files
  • 1 Gb total storage
  • expires in 21 days

If you need to have these settings increased please contact the MBL IT Helpdesk. Please be sure to include the FTP Site Username with your request. The Expiration Date can be extended manually by logging into the “FTP Site Administration” page at https://ftp.mbl.edu. FTP sites will automatically expire and the stored data will be deleted after 21 days unless the expiration date is extended. The creator of the FTP site will be notified by email before this occurs.
