Caprellids are a common piling animal althought they are small enough that they might escape notice. They can be found clinging to hydroids, bushy algaes, and other fouling organisms and resemble a small praying mantis. Their long bodies face into the current with their small clawed arms outstretched waiting to capture whatever drifts by. If dislodged they swim with a thrashing motion. They are commonly 10-20 mm in length although some species can reach 50 mm.
