Harvey Rabin, 70, a virologist and cancer drug researcher, died of brain cancer June 3, 2003 at his home in Rockville, Maryland. He had been a MBL Corporation Member since 1965.
For nearly a decade, Rabin was senior vice president of research and development at Wellstat Biologics/Wellstat Therapeutics and a predecessor company. Earlier, he was associate director of virology research at the DuPont Merck Pharmaceutical Co., where he helped direct biological testing and assay development of an HIV drug discovery program. Rabin also taught at Johns Hopkins University, and did research at the University of California, Davis, and the San Diego Zoological
Dr. Rabin was a native of Philadelphia and a graduate of Temple University, where he also received a doctorate in microbiology.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Evelyn M. Rabin of Rockville; two children from his first marriage, Jeffrey P. Rabin of Mansfield, Massachusetts, and Laura H. Winer of Toronto; and six grandchildren.
