It is with sadness that the MBL learned of the passing of MBL Corporation member and highly regarded eye researcher Dr. Nancy S. Rafferty. She was 73.
Dr. Rafferty was a student at the MBL in the 1950s and later a MBL investigator in the 1990s. She received her Ph.D. in Zoology from the University of Illinois. Dr. Rafferty was a faculty member at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine from 1963 to 1970. From 1970 to 1994, she was on the faculty of the Northwestern University Medical and Dental Schools. In 1994 Dr. Rafferty was named Professor emeritus at Northwestern.
A memorial service was held for Dr. Rafferty on March 9. Her ashes will be scattered over Vineyard Sound. Dr. Rafferty’s family has asked that donations in her memory be made to the Marine Biological Laboratory.
