Shirley “Deedee” Gifford

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Shirley “Deedee” Gifford, a member of the Woods Hole Community and a friend of the MBL. She died on February 17, at Falmouth Hospital, after a renewed battle with cancer and a severe fall.

Deedee was a member of the MBL Associates, who helped with the location of the Swope Center, the layout and planting of the MBL quadrangle, and the creation of Waterfront Park.

She leaves her husband, MBL corporation member and former chairman of the MBL board of trustees, Prosser Gifford, her daughters Barbara, Paula, and Heidi, six grandchildren, as well as her sister, Renee O’Sullivan, and her three daughters and their families.

A private burial will take place at the Church of the Messiah in Woods Hole, with a public memorial service to be announced at a later time.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Church of the Messiah, 13 Church Street, Woods Hole, MA 02543.
