1.0 Policy Statement:
The MBL Purchasing Department will place all orders with vendors outside of the MBL for all live organisms required by in-house scientific staff. For live organisms collected by the Aquatic Resources Department (ARD), orders should be placed with the ARD.

2.0 Organisms from outside vendors:
The Purchasing Department requires approval for all specimen orders, prior to placing orders, and the following procedure is required.

    2.1 In-house scientific staff, requesting to purchase live organisms from outside vendors must fill out a purchase order form.
    2.2 If the live organisms to be ordered do not require an IACUC approved protocol (non-vertebrates), deliver the purchase order form to Superintendent, ARD in MRC 313 or to the MRC Director, to obtain an approved signature.
    2.3 If the live organisms to be ordered require an IACUC approved protocol (vertebrates), the purchase order form is to be delivered to the Chairperson of the IACUC, in MRC 213, to obtain an approved signature.
    2.4 Deliver the approved purchase order form to the Purchasing Department, and the order will be placed.

3.0 In-House organisms collected by the ARD:

    3.1 In-house scientific staff requesting to purchase live in-house organisms collected by the ARD must complete a specimen order card, which is available in the Marine Resources Shipping Office in MRC 114.
    3.2 If the live organisms you are ordering do not require an IACUC approved protocol (non-vertebrates), leave the card in the Marine Resources Shipping Office in MRC 114.
    3.3 If the live organisms you are ordering require an approved IACUC protocol (vertebrates), the order card must be delivered to the Chairperson of the IACUC in MRC 213, to obtain an approved signature. The approved protocol number must be stated on the order card.
    3.4 Deliver the approved order card to the Marine Resources Shipping Office in MRC 114.
