The Gruss Lipper Family Foundation renewed funding in the amount of $460,450 for the Gruss Lipper Research and Educational Fund for Israeli Scientists over a period of three years.
The G. Unger Vetlesen Foundation renewed its grant of $350,000 in support of the Josephine Bay Paul Center for Comparative Molecular Biology and Evolution; the program to develop marine models for biomedical research in the MRC; and to support veterinary services at the MBL.
The Pfizer Foundation renewed its support for the workshop Living in the Microbial World in the amount of $46,504, and for the Molecular Mycology: Current Approaches to Fungal Pathogenesis course in the amount of $25,000.
Merck Research Laboratories renewed its support for the Molecular Mycology: Current Approaches to Fungal Pathogenesis course in the amount of $50,000.
The Cox Foundation, Inc. contributed $25,000 to the MBL Annual Fund.
The Bauer Center for Genomics Research renewed its support for the Physiology: Modern Cell Biology using Microscopic, Biochemical and Computational Approaches course in the amount of $22,500.
The Environmental Protection Agency awarded $62,000 (year 2) for a project titled “Dynamic Modeling of Emissions from Land-Use Activities.” Jerry Melillo is the principal investigator.
NASA awarded:
- $388,101 (year 3) for a project titled “From Early Biospheric Metabolisms to the Evolution of Complex Systems.” Mitchell Sogin is the principal investigator.
- $107,454 (year 1) for The NASA Planetary Biology Internship Program. Lynn Margulis is the principal investigator.
The Medical Library Association awarded $25,000 for a project titled “Bridging Biomedical and Biodiversity Knowledge via TaxonLink: Bridging Biomedical and Biodiversity Knowledge via Taxonomic Information.” Neil Sarkar is the principal investigator.
The National Science Foundation awarded:
- $820,001 (year 3) for “The Arctic LTER Project: Regional Variation I Ecosystem Processes and Landscape Linkages.” John Hobbie is the principal investigator.
- $236,161 (year 2) for a project titled “A Biochemical, Genetic and Genomic Investigation of the Evolution and Ecology of Sexual Reproduction.” David Mark Welch is the principal investigator.
- $75,000 (year 2) for a project titled “Arctic Biota Veg Projection.” Jerry Melillo is the principal investigator.
- $55,000 (year 4) for a project titled “Integrative Studies of Wolbachia-Eukaryotic Interactions: Genomes to Communities and Back.” Seth Bordenstein is the principal investigator.
The National Institutes of Health awarded $34,330 (year 3) for a project titled “Bioinformatics Resource Centers for Biodefense and Emerging/Re-emerging Infectious Disease.” Hilary Morrison is the principal investigator.
The United States Air Force awarded $150,000 for a project titled “Cephalopod Coloration and Sensory Mechanisms.” Roger Hanlon is the principal investigator.
