| Loligo Egg Mass |
| 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 |

The egg mass of Loligo shown here is approximately one meter in diameter. It has been reported that such egg masses can become much larger and numerous, covering many hectares in the case of Loligo opalescens on the West Coast (McGowan, 1954)
This picture shows many hundreds of egg capsules intertwined to form a large mass. The original object of attachment may be an alga, often Fucus, or some other solid object. Once an egg mass is started, other females nearby will deposit their egg capsule in it.
