Family Fun

Aquarium
NOAA maintains the Woods Hole Science Aquarium right across the street from the MBL campus.  It’s a great activity for children.  For details see http://aquarium.nefsc.noaa.gov/

Beaches
Stony Beach is a short walk from campus. Your MBL parking permit will allow you to park in the Stony Beach parking lot. Swimming lessons are available at Stony Beach. Another beach, Nobska Beach, is about 1.5 miles away. To get to Nobska Beach, leave Woods Hole on Woods Hole Road and, almost immediately, turn right onto Church St., continue for about a mile, and arrive at a beautiful beach with a picturesque lighthouse (Nobska Light). For more information on Falmouth beaches, visit http://www.oncape.com/beaches/Falmouth.  When returning to campus after time at the beach, keep in mind that MBL has installed an outside spigot and hose on the back side of Ebert Hall to rinse off your feet.

Bike paths
You can bike on the Shining Sea Bike path (originating in the Steamship Authority parking lot in Woods Hole) to the cottages, into Falmouth, and then for miles beyond. See a map of this 10.7-mile bike path at http://woodshole.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/falmouthbikewaysmap.pdf. Bicycle rentals are available in Falmouth at http://www.cornercycle.com/.

Programs
Children’s School of Science offers 3- and 6-week hands-on sciences courses for children ages 7-16. See http://childrensschoolofscience.org/. Falmouth Academy Summer Camp, located ~5 miles from the MBL campus and accessible by bike path, provides week-long children’s athletic and creative summer programs. See http://www.falmouthacademy.org/Summer-Programs.

Woods Hole village
The village of Woods Hole has an outstanding public library, a post office, a small market*, a coffee shop, a package store, a bakery, candy and ice cream shops, several restaurants (take-out and sit down from casual to tablecloths), and a weekend market in the old Woods Hole Fire Station that sells fresh produce and occasional baked goods. See link for village information at http://www.woodshole.com. It is the home of the Woods Hole Science Aquarium (http://aquarium.nefsc.noaa.gov/), the Woods Hole Film Festival (www.woodsholefilmfestival.org), and the Woods Hole Community Association, which holds a variety of cultural events each summer (www.woodsholecommunityassociation.org).
