Instrument Development

The Instrument Development Laboratory (IDL) is a fully equipped research machine shop facility. The IDL is familiar with the particular and varying requirements involved in modifications and in creating innovative equipment and devices required on research microscopes and other sophisticated apparatus. The IDL staff can work from verbal descriptions of requirements and from rough sketches or finished prints of parts or assemblies. The IDL can develop complete designs, if needed. IDL staff will make every effort to accommodate all researchers and will work with researchers to establish realistic project schedules.
