It is with much sadness that we share the news of the death of longtime MBL Corporation member Dr. Douglas Radford Shanklin, 82, who died with his family surrounding him on November 12, 2013 at Sibley Memorial Hospital, in Washington, DC, after a short battle with prostate cancer.
Dr. Shanklin was a member of the MBL Corporation since 1970, a library researcher in 2001, 2010, and 2012, and an active library patron. The MBL flag will be lowered in his honor. A funeral and burial will be held this Saturday, November 16, at 2:00 PM at the Church of the Messiah, 13 Church St., Woods Hole. Following a brief burial service in the adjoining cemetery, there will be a reception held from 3:30 to 5:30 PM at the MBL’s Swope Center.
The Shanklin Family (Virginia, Elizabeth, John Carter, and Eleanor) have invited everyone who shared Dr. Shanklin’s professional and personal passions to honor his life by joining them at the service and reception and have said they would love to hear stories and anecdotes about him, whether you can attend or not.
