This memorial tablet hangs in the lobby of the Lillie Library. It was presented to the MBL by Harriet R. H. Mayer (1868-1960), sculptor and daughter of the subject. The tablet reads: "Alpheus Hyatt. First President of the Woods Hole Laboratory, 1888. He also founded its prototype at Ann(i)squam, Massachusetts established in 1880 with the aid of the Woman's Education Association and the Boston Society of Natural History (1838-1902)."
