The Marine Biological Laboratory is committed to fostering new knowledge and securing the benefits of that knowledge for public dissemination and its own long-term well being.  Because patentable inventions and other discoveries requiring intellectual property protection often arise from the collaborative nature of the investigations undertaken in our laboratories, MBL has developed a policy and governing procedures that protect inventions, discoveries, or other work products that manifest an idea that could be copyrighted, patented, or otherwise commercially made available.

Partnering with the University of Chicago and its Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, MBL scientists have access to professional resources that can help them evaluate, market, and license innovative technologies.  For more information, contact research@mbl.edu.
