John Speer

The Marine Biological Laboratory is saddened to share the passing of John Warren Speer, a longtime member of the MBL community, who died on August 30, 2026. The MBL flag will be lowered in his memory.

After retiring from the Navy, John Speer served as the MBL's Director of Finance from 1982-1995. He became a Corporation Member in 1983 and a Corporation Life member in 2007. John was deeply proud that three generations of the Speer family have contributed to the success of the MBL.

We extend our condolences to John Speer’s family and friends, as well as the colleagues whose lives he touched throughout his time at the MBL.
