With sadness, the MBL shares the passing of Michael J. Zigmond of Woods Hole on August 28, 2023. A member of the MBL Society, he was retired as professor of neurology at the University of Pittsburgh. The MBL flag will be lowered in his memory.

Dr. Zigmond was a 1979 alumnus of the MBL Neurobiology course and was active in the development of the Summer Program in Neuroscience, Excellence and Success (SPINES) at MBL.

His research focused on the mechanisms of Parkinson’s Disease and the usefulness of exercise and social interactions in its treatment. He also served as course director of the Neurobiology of Brain Dysfunction course at MBL in 2011.
