He held honorary doctoral degrees from Brown University, the University of Ohio and Tufts University. He taught at NYU, Brown University, MIT, University of Rochester, the Marine Biological Laboratory and the University of Virginia. Dr. Gross began his affiliation with the MBL in 1950. From 1978-1986 he was Director and President of the Marine Biological Laboratory.
