With sadness we share the passing of MBL Society Emeritus member Richard R. Fay who died on September 1, 2022 at Cape Cod Hospital at the age of 78. The MBL flag will be lowered in his memory.

Dr. Fay studied hearing in vertebrates, and he spent more than two decades at the MBL as a summer researcher investigating the auditory system of the oyster toadfish. He was an alumnus of the 1989 Neural Systems and Behavior course.

Dr. Fay was a distinguished professor of psychology and neuroscience at Loyola University Chicago from 1974 until his retirement in 2011 and was a member of The Parmly Hearing Institute, where he served as director for more than 10 years.
