It is with sadness that we share the passing of MBL Society Emeritus member Roland L. Wigley who died on September 16, 2020 at the age of 96. The MBL flag is lowered in his memory.

Dr. Wigley had a long career at the Woods Hole Laboratory of the Bureau of Commercial Fisheries (now known as NOAA Fisheries) wherein he had close collaborations with MBL researchers. He retired in 1980 as Chief of the Benthic Dynamics Investigation.

In addition to wife Nancy (Shave) Wigley (whom he met at the MBL in 1956), Dr. Wigley is survived by his daughters Cynthia Domack of Clinton, NY and Susan Wigley (and her husband Jay Burnett) of Falmouth, as well as his nephew Thomas Wigley and his niece Sharon Gorham, both of Georgia. Private service and burial will be held in the Churchyard Cemetery in Woods Hole. Memorial donations may be made to The 300 Committee Land Trust, 157 Locust Street, Falmouth, MA 02540.
