Each year, the Amazon rainforest loses approximately 2,300 square miles to deforestation. (That's more than eight times the size of the city of Chicago.) This past summer, a group of University of Chicago graduate students spent 10 weeks in Brazil collaborating with ecosystems scientists, including MBL Fellows Chris Neill and Linda Deegan, and with policy experts to begin bridging the gap between scientific findings and Brazil’s biodiversity conservation efforts. Their multidisciplinary, collaborative work was part of the University of Chicago's International Innovation Corps Summer Policy Lab.
