Ten members of the MBL’s research, education, and alumni communities are newly elected to the National Academy of Sciences. Election to the Academy recognizes “distinguished and continuing achievements in original research” and is widely considered a mark of excellence in science. It is one of the highest honors a scientist can attain.

Among the MBL affiliates elected to the Academy this year are Alejandro Sánchez Alvarado, MBL Fellow and former co-director of the Embryology course;  and Clare M. Waterman, Whitman Center Scientist and former co-director of the Physiology course.
