Nicole A. Theodosiou, Ph.D., is the Burroughs Wellcome Director of Education at the Marine Biological Laboratory, where she oversees MBL’s educational portfolio, including the Advanced Research Training Courses (ARTCs), undergraduate and high school programs, and other educational initiatives. She brings more than 20 years of experience in developmental biology, science education, and academic leadership, with a focus on experiential learning, curriculum innovation, and the integration of research and education.

Before joining MBL, Theodosiou served as Special Projects Director for Initiatives in Pedagogy & Course Design and Professor of Biology at Union College, where she led initiatives in curriculum innovation, faculty development, and undergraduate STEM education. She has also held leadership roles with the Society for Developmental Biology and the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology, developing educational and professional development programs for scientists across disciplines.

A developmental biologist, Theodosiou’s research investigates the development and morphogenesis of the spiral valve intestine in the little skate, Leucoraja erinacea. Her contributions to developmental biology education research earned her the Stillman Prize for Excellence in Teaching in 2021 and membership in the inaugural class of the Society for Developmental Biology Academy in 2023. She earned her B.A. in Biology from Swarthmore College and her Ph.D. in Genetics from Yale University and completed a postdoctoral research fellowship at Harvard Medical School.
