Falmouth High Student Wins Research Grant to Work with MBL Scientists | Falmouth Enterprise

Falmouth High School student Gayatri Chaturvedi received a grant from the Marjot Foundation to conduct research with MBL scientists Loretta Roberson, left, and Mirta Teichberg.

Gayatri Chaturvedi, a junior at Falmouth High School, won a $5,000 Marjot Foundation grant to conduct scientific research over the course of the 2023-24 school year. Gayatri is the daughter of Drs. Neena and Rahul Chaturvedi.

Gayatri will be collaborating with two scientists from the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL): Dr. Loretta Roberson, associate scientist in the Bell Lab; and Dr. Mirta Teichberg, associate scientist and director of MBL’s Semester in Environmental Science.

Gayatri’s project, “Investigating the Impact of Ocean Acidification on Seaweed Growth and Physiology,” will have her studying the effects of exposing three local species of seaweed to different levels of acidification that may develop in our oceans as levels of carbon dioxide rise in the atmosphere.

Gayatri joins an elite group of approximately 100 high school students from New England and New York who have been awarded Marjot grants since 1998. Read rest of the article here.
