1.0 Application
All regular employees whose jobs require a significant amount of heavy lifting or other equally hazardous material handling tasks are eligible for shoe reimbursement. Employees who are eligible include employees of:

  • 1.1 Laboratory Operations Support
  • 1.2 Building Services and Grounds
  • 1.3 Plant Operations and Maintenance
  • 1.4 Marine Resources Department
  • 1.5 Environmental Services
  • 1.6 Security Department

2.0 Policy
Laboratory policy does not require the wearing of safety shoes. Depending on specific department risks, shoes with good tread, closed toe safety shoes or anti-slip boat shoes are necessary for employees listed in section 1.0 for their work duties at MBL. To encourage their use and that shoes are in good condition, the MBL will reimburse eligible employees yearly up to $125.00 for maximum of two pairs of shoes which meet the approval of the Environmental, Health and Safety Manager. Employees who receive the allowance are expected to wear their approved shoes at work.

  • 2.1 The total benefit to any employee will be limited to $125.00 per year on up to two pair of approved shoes.
  • 2.2 Final determination of eligibility will be made by the Environmental, Health and Safety Manager.
  • 2.3 Reimbursement Form along with receipts must be submitted to the Environmental, Health and Safety Office.
  • 2.4 Subsequent reimbursements are available 12 months from completion date on prior Reimbursement Request Forms.
