Summer May Be Ending—But MBL Courses Build Bonds that Last a Lifetime
As the summer rolls to a close, so does this season of MBL courses. Over the past several months, countless brilliant minds have come to the Woods Hole Campus to both learn and teach at the institution’s many educational programs. And, whether through graduate-level Advanced Research Training Courses (ARTCs) or undergraduate semesters, students at the MBL receive rare opportunities that shape their careers and lives.
For one, students get to build lasting connections with field experts from around the world. Not only do these top researchers lead lectures, but they also work with students in the lab to tackle cutting-edge questions together. And opportunities to chat with faculty outside of the lab cement these connections as something that will last a lifetime.
Equally life-changing are the bonds students build with each other. Each course consists of students from all different backgrounds and disciplines. So when they come together, they ask entirely original questions. As they pack up for the summer, many students report that they’re leaving not only with new friends, but also with future collaborators.
Learning from experts and from one another—amidst an environment of non-model organisms, cutting-edge technology, and deep scientific history—has made for a pretty great summer for MBL’s students.
